Compact Fanless Intelligent Systems for AGV Robotic Solutions

Compact Fanless Intelligent Systems for AGV Robotic Solutions

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) are widely used to load/unload, move, store, and transport goods/materials around factories and warehouses. These vehicles are used to complete monotonous tasks that require repetitive movements and little to no human decision making. AGVs can reduce the inefficiencies and injuries associated with logistics operations.

Application Requirements

A renowned AGV manufacturer in China was designing a state-of-the-art AGV that incorporated a compact fanless industrial-grade computer. This computer required multiple I/O ports — including GbE, USB, 4 x COM — Wi-Fi connectivity, and capability of fanless operation. Customers preferred a system solution over of a small form factor embedded motherboard. A system solution would simplify the cable routing and mechanical design inside the AGV’s chassis. Advantech’s ARK-1124C meets these criteria.

Compact Size with Versatile Industrial I/O

ARK-1124C is equipped with an Intel® Celeron® N3350 processor. It features a 6W TDP low-power design that is ideal for compact fanless systems. ARK-1124C’s small form factor (133 x 46.4 x 94.2 mm/5.23 x 1.82 x 3.7 in) design supports 4 x COM ports, 2 x USB, and M.2 2230 slots. These I/O and expansion abilities enable Wi-Fi communication via modules, device control, and sensor connections for cameras and control panels.

Highly Reliable Design for Embedded Applications

ARK-1124C supports fanless operation in extended temperatures (-20 ~ 60 °C/ -4 ~ 140 °F). This solution is compliant with CE/FCC EMC class B, a higher EMI standard than most industrial compliant products. Advantech’s ARK-1124C is designed with 100% solid capacitors which are more reliable than electrolytic capacitors. ARK-1124C uses TG-170 PCB material to remain stable during high temperature operation.

Stackable ARK-plus Design Delivers Diverse Expansion Capabilities

ARK-1124C supports the ARK-plus stackable design to deliver I/O expansion and DC power upgrades. By applying a 2nd stacked layer to ARK-1124C, users can upgrade the power input from single 12VDC to wide range 12 ~ 24VDC input. This 2nd layer further supports one iDoor module with diverse I/O selections — including USB, multiple COM, and dual GbE expansions.
